I’m still alive! Quick updates below!
Hi all! Writing here from the comfort of my sweet, sweet air-conditioned home. This Memorial Day weekend I ventured up to Burlington, Vermont and ran the Vermont City Marathon, marathon number 17 for me and state number 12. But it almost didn’t happen! Suspense!
Tomorrow is the Vermont City Marathon! Woohoo! Stop by early next week for the recap. Here, I wanted to give a few thoughts about the race, my preparation for it, and most importantly, the taper I’ve been doing for the past two weeks. In no particular order:
Week eight of training for the Vermont City Marathon is here! Well, it just passed, actually. TAPER TIME. (Should I create a video re-doing the Hammertime video as Tapertime? Probably. Maybe it’s been done before?) In addition to getting in some last-minute training, this week I also picked back up the old My Fitness Pal app to see if I can start shedding some of this weight that’s slowing me down. I wrapped up another week of training for the Vermont City Marathon. This was week seven with just three more weeks until the race — aka one more week of training before the taper! I’m feeling really ready, maybe because this will be by third marathon this year, maybe because I’m actually sticking to my “training plan” pretty well. This week, things were still busy but slightly more calm at work so I was able to get in a couple good workouts although maybe not as many as would be idea…
Y’all might have seen this viral article by a woman who is proposing this concept of “Me-ternity”leave — a paid break childless women could take for themselves. Needless to say, there’s some backlash. I won’t get dragged into that conversation. All I know is this week has been quite demanding at work, and those billable hours are crowding out my leisurely Sweetgreen lunches, afternoon walks, and mid-morning Orangetheory sessions. So I’m wondering… how about “Runner-nity” leave?

Last week (yeah, the one that ended four days ago — I’m late! Sorry!) was just OK in terms of fitness progress… TONS of things going on at work that had me a bit stressed at times and interfered with my desire to sleep and/or go to Orangetheory. BUT! I also found out that I got in to the CHICAGO MARATHON (!!!!) through the lottery. I’ve been wanting to do this race for YEARS but for various reasons haven’t made it happen. 2016 is the year! So I’ll wait to check off Oregon (my backup plan) and instead get ILLINOIS. Shockingly, I have never been to Chicago. I don’t even think I’ve flown through Chicago… CRAZY. As soon as I found out I was picked (which was right when I woke up because the Chicago people, unlike the NYC people, are merciful and send you a nice notice at 4:30 am instead of making you check your credit card statement a million times a day), I booked a non-refundable hotel for race weekend and made this this official. So… as some of you may know, Chicago is a pretty fast course. Which has me thinking… This is probably a good time to get a new PR and see how far I am from a BQ time… BUT FIRST! Vermont City Marathon. So here’s what I did this past week… Continue reading
OK, OK. Week four. Really into it now. Only six weeks left until race day! (And can we talk about how it is LEGIT springtime right now???
Here’s what I had planned:
AND I ACTUALLY DID IT (for the most part).

OK, a little delayed on this recap of last week. But here it is. Week three of training!…
Here’s what I had planned:
The reality? Let’s just say this week started and ended well…

Another week has come and gone, and we are already into APRIL! This was my second week of training for the Vermont City Marathon.
