One Week Until the Chicago Marathon!


I am running the Chicago Marathon in just one week!  If all goes well, this will be my 19th marathon and my 14th state!  Woohoo.  I had signed up for this race hoping to make a big jump in my PR and finally snatch a BQ.  But taking over four hour to finish the Mesa Falls Marathon was a big reality check for me.  Sounds like a BQ might be a few races off…

Last Week of Asheville Marathon Training

Did anyone do RnR New Orleans this weekend?  I did that marathon a few years ago and it was pretty fun!  Check out my recap here.  

This week was do-or-die for me, given that my longest run in this training cycle was 11.4 miles until this week.  Yikes!!!!  I usually like to get to 17 or 18 miles, if not 20.  Last week I stepped it up with three Orangetheory sessions and two longer runs, and this week I wanted to keep the momentum and finish this training cycle strong.  Oh, and do a true long run.  Here’s how I did…

Let’s Talk About Glycogen! (and Tapering and Carb Loading)

I’m tapering for the Mississippi Blues Marathon, and in a few days I’ll start carb loading.  We do this mostly because of one fancy word: glycogen. I’ve heard the word bandied about but I wondered Do I really know what it means?  And am I doing the right things with regard to glycogen?  Thank goodness for the internet.
